This is the end?

Is it really over or will this be like one of those 4 volume trilogies that pop up every now and again? Can we have prequels or sequels or continuing characters to keep us going through the long dark winter days. Have you guessed that I want MORE, MORE MORE? It's been tough squeezing all these "things" into my busy day but I still want MORE, MORE, MORE. I hope the message gets through and we continue to play while we learn about wacky new things. I think my favorite was was Delicious, I just love that toolbar at the top of my page. I'm tweeting but not a lot and I do use the RSS feeds a bit although I don't really understand how it all works. This has been a really great experience and at times very challenging. (can we do more?)

Twittering, Tweeting and Twerping

I'm not sure which of the three I'm really doing. Twitter is fun to watch, it's like peeking into someone's thoughts. You can be a fly on the wall but only if the person wants you there. I've made some interesting connections. I started following my boss who popped up when I first logged in - and I still don't know how that happened. Now I've linked to one of her connections who reports for a local tv station. I don't log in as oftern as some other people do, I'm cell phone challenged so I just do it when I'm on the computer. Well, that's not completely true, I just don't like cell phones. I can't believe that people really have to be connected 24/7 to everyone they know and that they have to talk to them while they are standing in front of me at the reference desk in the middle of a question. Whew! Good to get that off my chest. Maybe I should just stick to Twittering this kind of thing.

Oh the things you can learn...

This post just in from LISNews. I'm enjoying keeping current with what's going on all over the country in all kinds of libraries with this blog. Most of the posts are serious but it's so much fun to catch a typo like this aka David Letterman. Maybe this is what we need for all those reluctant weeders out there. You know who you are.

"Perfect Weeding Music"--a CD Swap for Library Folk
November 25, 2008 - 7:41am — Anonymous Patron (not verified)
Your CD mixing skills wanted!

Last week, Emily Lloyd (of Shelf Check) noticed that her library carries a CD of wedding songs that bears the manufacturer's typo "PERFECT WEEDING MUSIC" and posted about it to Twitter. Twitter user surferrosa (Nanette Donohue) thought that "Perfect Weeding Music" would make a great theme for a mix CD, and the Perfect Weeding Music CD Swap was born.

Nanette writes, "The deal: Create a mix CD featuring songs that you would consider 'perfect weeding music.' Songs that inspire folks to dig into their library's collection and get rid of the old, the outdated, the stuff that looks gross, smells bad, and is so dusty that you wonder if it's been touched in decades."

Each participant will send out two CDs (and each participant will receive two CDs in return). Items must be mailed by December 31, 2008.

MOLDI

I started looking around at the selections to download and had no idea there were so many. The last time I looked at this there wasn't anything interesting to choose from. I just found several cookbooks I'd like to check out. It's on my to do list for home now. I especially want to get the appitizer cookbook with the holidays coming up. Food and Flamingos - what could be better for Christmas than that.

Delicious

I've been using Delicous for a while now and really like the convenience of not having to go into my "favorites" and look for a website I use all the time. So far I only have the delicous toolbar on my work computer but with the upcoming holiday I think I will spend some time adding it to my laptop at home. It's so easy to add sites and they just sit there waiting for me.
I just finished reading a blog post about the pros and cons of loaning out laptops to computers. This was on feed that posts about SLIS programs. Neat to hear what the students are learning about.

Podcasting is delicious

Yummo! I subscribed to a recipe podcast and ended up with a wonderful sounding recipe for talipia.
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup butter, softened
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
2 pounds tilapia fillets
DIRECTIONS
Preheat your oven's broiler. Grease a broiling pan or line pan with aluminum foil.
In a small bowl, mix together the Parmesan cheese, butter, mayonnaise and lemon juice. Season with dried basil, pepper, onion powder and celery salt. Mix well and set aside.
Arrange fillets in a single layer on the prepared pan. Broil a few inches from the heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip the fillets over and broil for a couple more minutes. Remove the fillets from the oven and cover them with the Parmesan cheese mixture on the top side. Broil for 2 more minutes or until the topping is browned and fish flakes easily with a fork. Be careful not to over cook the fish.

I can't wait to try it.

RSS feeds

“If Google owns me, it’s probably because I am in favor of what works.” That's a quote by from the NYTimes that I picked up on Library Stuff with an RSS feed.
It's from an article called Google Seduces With Utility By DAVID CARR
Published: November 23, 2008

Since I am beginning to feel I owe my soul to the company store, Google, I bonded with David as soon as I read his piece. In an interview with a Google executive he was reminded that they don't force anyone to use Google. It concludes...

But with video chat now enabled in my Gmail, how likely am I to click away? Some people worry that Google will take over the world. Through the sins of competence and innovation, the company has quietly and efficiently surrounded me.

“That’s our business model,” Mr. Schmidt said.
